Dr. med. Wolfgang Gaebel is Professor of Psychiatry, former Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf, and Head of the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf. He is Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Quality Management and Empowerment in Mental Health.
From 2014 to 2016 he was also Director of the LVR-Institute for Mental Healthcare Research (LVR-IVF).
He was President of the European Psychiatric Association from 2015-2016 and is now Past President and continues as co-chair of the Section on Schizophrenia, chair of the EPA Publication Committee and coordinator of the EPA Guidance Project.
Professor Gaebel is chairman of the World Psychiatric Association Sections on Schizophrenia and on Quality Assurance. His research focus includes clinical, pharmacological, and neurophysiological aspects of schizophrenia, treatment guidelines and quality management, stigma and discrimination, and the revision of classification towards DSM-5 and ICD-11 . He is a member of the WHO International Advisory Group for the Revision of ICD-10 Mental and Behavioral Disorders, chair of the ICD-11 working groups on Psychiotic Disorders, member of the WHO ICD-11 Field Study Coordination Group and member of the WHO FIC International and Scientific Advisory Committee for ICD-11.
