Richard Bränström Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Dr. Bränström studies social determinants of health and health-related behaviors, as well as, the effects of internet-based psychological treatments. In particular, he studies how social, psychological and contextual factors influence the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals. In this research, he uses both social epidemiological, psychological, and socioecological models to understand the influence of stigma and discrimination on physical and mental health disparities based on sexual orientation. Recently, he has initiated studies of the specific health situation of LGBT migrants in Sweden and other European countries.
