Dr. Omar M. Mahmood is a clinical neuropsychologist and is licensed to practice psychology in California, USA and in the State of Qatar. He has worked as a consultant neuropsychologist throughout the Middle East and North Africa region. Dr. Mahmood graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. degree in Psychobiology and Arabic. He then completed an M.A. degree and a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Mahmood completed his clinical psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the University of California, San Diego and the VA San Diego Healthcare System. Currently, Dr. Mahmood is a staff psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar and he is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College. His research and scholarly interests are diverse but focus on two broad areas: 1) the cognitive neuroscience of normal and pathological brain functioning across the lifespan and 2) the development of psychological assessments and therapies that are culturally and linguistically appropriate to populations in or from the Middle East and the Muslim World. He frequently gives community lectures on topics of mental health, brain development, and psychology from an Islamic perspective.
