Dr. Nabil El Ayoubi is currently a Neurologist and MS specialist at AUBMC. He is a graduate of the Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela (MD, Cum Laude-2004), after which he concluded his training in medicine in Venezuela, and then moved to Lebanon to complete his specialization in Neurology at AUBMC followed by Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the Therese and Nehme Tohmeh MS Center. Dr. El Ayoubi has extensive experience in research at AUB, earning a Master in Sciences degree in Epidemiology from the Faculty of Health Sciences. His main focus of research is the study of different biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, especially the study of the visual pathway through optical coherence tomography (OCT) as a window into neuro-pathological phenomena that occur these patients. His recent work demonstrated the correlation between retinal layers’ atrophy and cognitive dysfunction in patients with early MS. He is working closely with several pioneers in OCT research in the U.S. and Europe, as well as with other local neurologists and neuroscientists trying to extrapolate the knowledge in OCT to several disorders other than MS. He has several publications in international refereed medical journals and presented his work at international meetings.
