Joseph S. Solomkin, MD, FACS, FIDSA, Executive Director World Surgical Infection Society and Professor of Surgery (Emeritus) at the University of Cincinnati. He joined that Department as a general surgeon, sub-specializing in burns and trauma in 1981. He was appointed s Director of the Division of Surgical Infections. Dr. Solomkin served as an external expert on team that developed the CDC Surgical Site Infection Prevention Guideline, and Chaired the Guideline Development Group that produced the WHO Surgical Site Infection Prevention Guideline.He is the founder and Executive Director of the World Surgical Infection Society, intended to reduce the burden of surgical infections in low and middle-income countries. This work is focused on maternal and neonatal infections following caesarean section.
