After graduating from medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern, Dr. Hastie completed his anesthesiology residency and fellowship training in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center. He then pursued additional fellowship training in critical care medicine at the University of Michigan before returning to join faculty at Columbia University in 2011.
As a faculty member, Dr. Hastie has been active medical education, serving as an assistant or associate residency program director since 2011 and leading many educational initiatives within the department. He was twice honored as Cozine Teacher of the Year by the graduating resident classes. In addition, he was named associate director of the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in 2015, where his work has focused on quality improvement and quality assurance. He is an active member of the Society for Education in Anesthesia among other professional societies.
