Elke Reissing received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 2002 and completed her residency at the Center for Psychological Services & Research at the University of Ottawa, Canada. She subsequently accepted a faculty position at the University of Ottawa where she is now a professor in the School of Psychology and the director of the Human Sexuality Research Laboratory. She is a member of the LIFE Research Institute. Dr. Reissing has always maintained a private practice and she is the clinical supervisor for sexual health services at the Center for Psychological Services & Research. Her research focuses on sexual pain disorders, in particular lifelong vaginismus, and the role of the pelvic floor in sexuality. Recently, lab projects are developed to investigate sexuality and aging in women, in particular female orgasm across the lifespan, genito-urinary syndrome of menopause and sexual function, as well as physiotherapy treatment approaches to improving vaginal atrophy and sexual function.
