Elie Akl is a Professor of Medicine at AUB. He practices as a general internist and leads the division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics (GIMG) at AUBMC. He is the director of the Clinical Research Institute (CRI), director of the AUB GRADE Center, and co-director of the Center for systematic reviews of health policy and systems research (SPARK). He is affiliated with the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HE&I) at McMaster University in Canada. His research expertise is in systematic reviews, practice guidelines, and conflicts of interest. He serves as a guideline methodologist for a number of North American professional organizations and the World Health Organization. He published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and was listed by Thomson Reuters as one of the 2015 “world’s most influential scientific minds” and as one of the “Highly Cited Researchers” in 2016 and 2017.
