ECMO Workshop

ECMO Cannulation is the first and essential step that should be mastered in order to initiate the ECMO support safely. This one day course will cover all aspects of cannulation from choosing the site of cannulation, the type of required cannulae, steps of cannulation procedure, to the care of cannulae and how to anticipate complications. The educational format includes didactic lectures and high-fidelity simulation. The lectures include how to prepare for cannulation, human factors and current practice of cannulation. Hands-on training will enable to plan, prepare and practice cannulations in different modalities and situations. High-fidelity simulation will allow to practice cannulation in an immersive scenario by translating knowledge and skills acquired during the didactic lectures and hands-on. Experienced faculty and instructors will enforce the educational objectives of the lectures by facilitating discussions on risk management, leadership, critical thinking, situation awareness and inter-professional team-work.
